Volleyball Snow

Despite having a regular season record of 17-1 this year’s Lobo volleyball season could be considered one of redemption. Snowflake won the 3A State Championship on Saturday afternoon for the first time since 1996. In the process, they defeated the only team that had beaten them this year in regular season play and avenged last season’s semi-final loss in the title game.

Snowflake took down Northwest Christian in the 3A championship match in three straight games, 25-18, 25-23 and 31-29. Last season Northwest Christian ended Snowflake’s season in the semi-final round.

This year’s semifinal round was a match-up with the only team to hand the Lobos a regular season loss this year. Thatcher was the No. 4 overall seed in the bracket and they gave the top-seeded Lobos all they could handle in the semi-final match on Friday evening. Snowflake won in five close games, 25-23, 25-21, 24-26, 21-25 and 15-9 in the fifth.

Northwest Christian earned their bid in the title match with a 3-0 win over Valley Christian in the other semi-final match.

Along with the state title the Lobos had several players who earned individual all-region honors this season. Livi Schneider, Addy Fisher and Kadee Penrod were each named first-team all-region players. Macey Gardner was selected to the second team all-region. Braxton Jones was named the 3A East Offensive Player of the Year. Chelsea Caskey and Lily Lundberg were named to the honorable mention all-region team.
