The Lady Wildcats put together an impressive state tournament run before having their season come to a close in the 1A state semifinal round on Friday afternoon.
Joseph City entered the 1A state playoff bracket as the sixth overall seed. Hosting 11th-seeded Bagdad on Tuesday, the Lady Cats took advantage of their home court dominating Bagdad in three games 25-11, 25-17, and 25-15. That win advanced them in the bracket where they upset No. 3, St. David, in three straight games on Friday afternoon. The Cats won 25-23, 25-21, and 25-17 to advance to the semifinal round.
In the semis, they took on No. 2 Rock Point. The Cougars were 16-1 on the season and they were coming off an unbeaten state title season last year. That experience paid off for them as they ended Joseph City’s season in five games. Rock Point took the first two games 25-19 and 25-17. Joseph City showed their resolve bouncing back to win game three 25-17 and took game four 25-20 setting up a decisive fifth game for a chance to play for the championship. That final game was close but Rock Point eventually prevailed 15-11 bringing an end to a really good Wildcat season.
Rock Point won their second straight state title when they upset top-ranked Williams in five games in the final match of the season on Saturday.
