Football Holbrook

Holbrook took their unbeaten streak to Valley Sanders on Friday night where they didn’t expect to be tested by the winless Pirates. The third-ranked Roadrunners definitely were not tested in a 60-0 runaway win.

This game did little to prepare Holbrook for the upcoming state playoffs, but they did enjoy success in most areas. Marcus Oberriter completed five of 10 passes for 110 yards with three of those completions going for touchdowns. He did throw one interception. Izzy Ramos completed both passes he threw for 45 total yards.

Ramos was the only receiver to catch more than one pass. He had two receptions for a total of 25 yards with one score. Daniel Montijo had one 42-yard scoring catch and run. Noah Padilla had one 15-yard touchdown reception. Daniel John had a 29-yard catch. Mason Archunde had a 23-yard catch. Oberriter had a 16-yard catch.

On the ground, Darnell Nez led the way, gaining 49 yards on five runs. Matthias Montijo carried once, scoring on a 41-yard run. Oberriter had two carries, both resulting in short scoring runs totaling 17 yards. Montijo gained 33 yards on five runs with a touchdown.

Kelli Hill set a record by becoming the first female kicker to score for Holbrook. The senior soccer player turned place kicker was good on five of her eight point after-attempts in the win.

This week Holbrook might see a little tougher competition when they host Hopi, but they are still expected to roll to an undefeated regular season. Hopi has six wins on the season including last week’s 38-20 win over Pinon, but they aren’t expected to give Holbrook much of a game.

With Camp Verde losing on Friday night the Roadrunners will most certainly be at least a top-four seed in the upcoming 2A playoffs meaning they could potentially host two playoff games. They will for sure host a first-round game on Nov. 4.

Tickets for all playoff games are purchased through GOFAN only. No cash tickets will be sold at the gate for any of the playoff games. They will go on sale on the AIA website once the brackets are released. Tickets will be $10 each for adults and $5 for students.
