The Lady Wildcats went 2-1 in their final three regular-season matches played last week. This week they will compete in the 1A Copper Sectional tournament to hopefully earn a bid to the 16-team 1A state tournament.

Joseph City started the week with a big win over rival Mogollon on Tuesday night. The Cats swept the Mustangs in three games 25-13, 25-15 and 25-11.

Kate Edwards and Kadence Armstrong each had 13 kills. Kayle James served six aces. Edwards finished with 15 digs. April Neil, Ava Neil and Kayle James each had 11 digs. James led the team in assists with 25.

Playing in Fort Thomas on Thursday, the Cats won three close games 25-23, 25-21 and 25-21. Edwards led in kills with 17. Ava Neil added 12 and Kadence Armstrong had 10. Edwards also led in digs with 29. Armstrong added 17, Ava Neil and James each had 13. James led in assists with 34.

Their final regular season match was a tough one against a talented Rock Point team. The Cougars have been one of the better teams in recent years at the 1A level and on Saturday in Joseph City, they proved to once again be a threat for a state title. They took care of Joseph City in four games. The Lady Cats won the first game 25-21, but dropped the final three 17-25, 15-25 and 14-25.

The 1A state volleyball tournament begins on Tuesday, Nov. 1, with the first-round matches all played at sites of the higher seeds. Joseph City finished the regular season ranked fifth overall but will have to await the conclusion of sectional tournaments before they know their final seeding for the state tournament.

Joseph City completed the regular season with an overall record of 12-5.
