The Wildcats improved to 5-3 on the season with a 48-12 home-field win over Fredonia on Friday evening. The Cats held the Lynx to just 55 passing yards and 155 yards on the ground in the win.

Joseph City was ranked 11th prior to the win over the 19th-ranked Lynx. That win should keep them comfortable inside the final 16 regardless of their outcome this week vs Mogollon. In 1A football the top 16 teams make the state playoff bracket.

This week is rivalry week. Fifth-ranked Mogollon will host the Wildcats on Friday night. The Mustangs are coming off back-to-back unbeaten seasons both of which finished with state championships. This year they have lost twice. However, last week they took down previously unbeaten and top-ranked Williams 36-24. The Mustangs have won three straight and appear to be peaking at the right time. Combine that with their state title confidence and they will be a tough match-up for the Wildcats on Friday night. Joseph City will hope to avoid a similar result to last year’s 66-6 loss to the Mustangs.
