The Lady Birds volleyball team head into their final five games with a regular season mark of 7-5 after earning wins in two of three matches played during homecoming week.

Hosting Show Low on Monday last week, Holbrook fell in three games. The first two games were highly competitive with the Cougars taking the first game 31-29 and the second 25-22. Holbrook faltered in the third losing it and the match 13-25.

The following day Holbrook welcomed in St. Johns and survived a grueling five-game match. Holbrook won the first game 32-30, then took the second 25-22. The Redskins rallied to win game three 25-13 and forced a fifth game by winning the fourth 26-24. Holbrook won the final game and the match 15-11.

Wrapping up a week of homecoming activities with a road trip to Window Rock on Saturday morning, the Roadrunners were successful despite dropping the first game 18-25. They came back to win the second 28-26, then took the third 25-14 and closed out the Scouts with a 25-22 game-four victory.

Holbrook was ranked 16th prior to Saturday’s win over 24th-ranked Window Rock. They have five matches left on the docket. If they can finish inside the top 16 in the rankings they would host a play-in game. If not, they will be on the road for that contest. If they can win out which would be difficult considering their schedule, they could potentially climb into the top eight and get a first-round bye.

After playing in Blue Ridge on Tuesday this week they will play three days in a row next week. Beginning on the 18th they host Winslow, followed by hosting Payson in Holbrook on the 19th and a trip to take on the top ranked Lobos in Snowflake on Thursday will leave them just one match the following week.
