The Lobos were riding high at the 4A level until Friday night when they were knocked from their unbeaten throne by 5A Cactus. The Cobras came into the game with just one win in three games but showed there is a gap between the 4A and 5A teams. Defensively both teams were solid all night long.

The huge defensive battle was won 7-0 by the Cactus Crusaders. They held Snowflake to just 85 yards of offense in the win. Snowflake’s defense was tough as well giving up just one touchdown to a Cactus team that was moved up from 4A to the open division playoffs last year before being placed into 5A this year.

The only score of the game came near the end of the opening period when Cactus’ Damian Jiles scored on a two-yard plunge. The point after put the lead at 7-0 where it remained for the entirety of the contest.

Easton Butler completed just six of his 14 passes for 56 total yards, with two interceptions. Tyler Clare was the target on five of those six passes catching five for 51 total yards. JJ Lerma had one five-yard reception.

Snowflake’s ground attack was stymied as well for most of the night. Jett McCray was the leading rusher with just 35 yards on 14 attempts. Karter Raban picked up five yards and JJ Lerman had a total of nine yards.

With the loss, the Lobos dropped to 3-1 on the season. This Friday they will try and bounce back when they take on the Bears in Bradshaw Mountain. This team is just 1-1 on the season and is coming off a 22-34 loss to Buckeye Union last week.
