At approximately 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, Joseph City Fire Department was dispatched to the Love’s Travel Stop for reports of a semi-truck on fire. According to JCFD Public Information Officer Tyler Rice, first responding units found a semi-truck located in the main parking lot west of the commercial fuel pumps fully engulfed in flames. Due to the high heat and close proximity of parked trucks flames quickly spread to an adjacent truck. With the arrival of first due engines JCFD deployed two 150 feet attack lines and was able to knock down and keep the fire from spreading allowing other parked trucks time to move. With the help of Joseph City “CERT” team and mutual aid partners Holbrook Volunteer Fire Department and Winslow Fire Department, crews were able to safely control and extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported and the fire was contained to the first initial trucks. Upon investigation the cause was determined to be a malfunctioning refrigeration unit that overheated and caused surrounding insulation of the trailer to catch fire.
