During the call to the public section of last week’s Winslow City Council meeting, Rich Leonard addressed the council representing the Winslow Little League Senior Girls softball team which recently won their second state championship in a row.

The team, consisting of girls aged 13 to 16, won the tournament by beating Blythe 12-2. They will now travel to Missoula, Mont., to compete in the Western Regional Championship tournament to face teams from Hawaii, Nevada, California and Utah.

Leonard said, “These girls and their families are completely responsible for their travel, meal, lodging, and other expenses getting to the tournament. We would like the council to consider helping us with some of these financials as we go to represent Arizona.”

Leonard also mentioned the public is encouraged to help support the team. “We are making a TikTok and doing some other social media things to garner some support from businesses and residents as these girls will be representing the state in this tournament.”
