On Thursday, Jan. 6, Lady Bulldog Kylie Begay started the game needing just nine points to reach the 1,000-point milestone in her high school career. She would get the first basket of the game with a three-point shot followed by another, but the third three-pointer wouldn’t fall until 1:04 in the first quarter. With an official’s timeout she was able to celebrate the achievement with her coach and teammates a long with cheering fans.
At halftime Kylie was presented with a special 1,000-point basketball and flowers from another 1,000-pointer alum Dr. Michelle Tom class of 1994, who played for Arizona State University and led the PAC-10 in three-point percentage at 42%, along with Student-Athlete of the Year. After medical school she returned to Winslow to work at the Winslow Indian Health Care Center.
Kylie Begay is a four-year varsity letterman, varsity starter, three-year All Region and All Navajo Times, two-year All State, Multiple Sports Zone Player of the Game, All Pepsi Tournament Team and now a member of the Winslow High School 1000-Point Club.
Coach Jerron Jordon commented that it has been an honor to coach Kylie for the past four years.
