The Lady Lobos went 3-1 in the platinum bracket at the Epic Tourney New Year’s Eve Classic tournament held on Tuesday through Thursday last week.

The Lobos opened the tournament on Tuesday with a 53-45 win over Valley Sanders. With that win they advanced to face eventual bracket champion Sandra Day O’Connor early Wednesday afternoon. Snowflake played well defensively, holding the 6A Eagles to just 34 points, but offensively they struggled against the bigger school netting just 25 points in the 34-25 loss.

With that loss they dropped down into the bracket to face Higley High School on their home floor early Wednesday evening. The Lobos bounced back in a thriller and hung on to defeat the Lady Knights 40-39.

That win advanced them in the bracket to face Cienega on Thursday afternoon. The Lobos led by one at the half, then opened up a workable lead in the second half eventually winning the game 43-33.

The Lady Lobos enter January with an overall record of 6-6 and they are 2-2 in regular season contests. From here on out all games will count towards power points.

Snowflake has a tough start to the new year. On Thursday they will play at Alchesay, then on Friday they hit the road again for a trip to Thatcher. Next Wednesday they will open East region play when they host Show Low.
