The Lady Roadrunners, Lady Bulldogs and Lady Lobos are all expected to compete in the Epic Tourney New Year’s Classic Tournament this week. Holbrook and Winslow will be competing in the diamond bracket while Snowflake will play in the platinum bracket.
The Lobos will meet up with Valley Sanders on Tuesday at Lincoln Prep High School. They will face either Monument Valley or Red Mountain at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon.
St. Michaels, Shadow Ridge, Combs, Cienega, Round Valley, Miami, Buckeye, Window Rock, Peoria, Arete and Blue Ridge round out the 16-team platinum bracket. Each team will get four games in bracket play.
Winslow and Holbrook will join Deer Valley, Shadow Mountain, Paradise Honors, Saguaro, Desert Edge, Verrado, Chinle, ALA-Queen Creek, Alchesay, Horizon, Phoenix Country Day School, Page, St. Johns Paul II and Boulder Creek in the top tier bracket.
Winslow faces Desert Edge on Tuesday night at Lincoln Prep High School. They will meet up with either Chinle or Verrado in their second-round game on Wednesday morning.
Holbrook matches up with ALA-Queen Creek on Tuesday evening, then will see either Alchesay, or Horizon in their first of two games on Wednesday.
This will be a good tournament for all the area schools. With the majority of the bracket being top level 3A teams joined by several big schools this will help the teams get ready for region play in January. This tournament has traditionally been good for teams to get into mid-season form and prepare for region play, which begins early in January.
Holbrook returns to regular season action on Jan. 6 with a trip to Round Valley, followed by a home date with ALA Gilbert North on the 8th. Their first region game will be on the 10th when they host Show Low.
