By Greg Perkins Holbrook entered last week’s soccer match up with Show Low hoping to carry over the momentum from winning three games at the Tucson Tournament the previous weekend. Hosting the Cougars, the Roadrunners played very tough battling Show Low to a 2-2 halftime tie. Show Low scored once midway through the second to lead 3-2. Holbrook had a couple of great scoring chances that bounced off the crossbar on two different occasions, but neither went in, leaving Holbrook with a well-played and hard fought 3-2 loss. Ranked 19th in power points and with only four matches remaining Holbrook will more than likely need to win out to have a chance at making the post season. This week they play at top ranked Snowflake on Wednesday. The Lobos were unbeaten until they fell to Camp Verde on Saturday. The Lady Roadrunners entered the week ranked ninth but need to climb at least three spots in the rankings to make the post season. Hosting Round Valley on Thursday last week they fell behind 3-0 in the first half but kept playing hard and shut out the Elks in the second half. Holbrook scored once in the half but fell 1-3. Holbrook now 3-5, has five matches left and will need to win most of them to have a chance to move into a playoff position. They play twice this week. After hosting Snowflake on Tuesday, they will travel to Round Valley on Saturday. Next Tuesday the Ladies will host St. Johns in their final home match of the season.
