Baseball 3 Snowflake

By Greg Perkins Like their football team and their basketball teams, Snowflake’s baseball team is off to a stellar beginning. Dating back to March 12 when their basketball teams were still in the middle of the state playoffs, the Lobo baseball team was racking up wins. Snowflake has won their first six games of the season beginning with a 23-0 wipeout of visiting Coolidge to start the season. Snowflake pounded out 19 hits in the win led by Rhett Wengert who went four for five, with a triple. Caden Cantrell was two for two, with a home run and a double. Ryan Caskey pitched all five innings giving up just two hits with nine strikeouts. On March 16, the team had what has been their closest game of the season thus far with an 8-4 road win over Kingman. Snowflake trailed 4-2 after the second inning then tied the game in the third. In the top of the sixth they scored the final four runs of the game. Jace LeSueur led the way at the plate going two for four, with a double. Cantrell pitched six innings allowing four runs on four hits with 10 strikeouts. Caskey worked the final inning allowing just one hit. On March 19, the Lobos took care of American Leadership Academy Ironwood at home by a final of 12-1. On March 23 they shutout Alchesay 10-0, then on the 25th they took care of Thatcher 16-1. Snowflake scored 15 first inning runs in that contest. Last Friday, the Lobos made it a season sweep over the Falcons with a 15-2 win in Whiteriver. After playing in Winslow on Tuesday, they will host the same Winslow team on Thursday. On Friday Snowflake travels to Gilbert Christian to face the Knights. Winslow is 3-1 on the young season while Gilbert Christian currently sits at 5-1, so both teams may challenge the Lobos perfect season this week.
