Baseball 1 Holbrook 4

By Greg Perkins Holbrook’s softball season has begun with the team opening up their 2021 schedule on the road at Page on Saturday afternoon. Playing in chilly conditions, the Lady Roadrunners battled through six and a half innings before falling to the Sand Devils 5-0. Page scored single runs in the second and third innings, then built a larger cushion with a three-run fourth. Their freshman pitcher Kylee Sam went the distance giving up just three hits to the Lady Birds. Holbrook freshman Natalie Patterson collected two of those three hits going two for three. Sophomore Macy Moore had the other Holbrook hit going one for two. Madison Moore drew one walk and stole one base. Aubrianna Begay and Talyssa Larson also drew walks. Patterson also got the starting nod in the circle where she worked five innings, allowing five runs on six hits with four walks and five strikeouts. Tiffani Tyler pitched one inning giving up one hit. Holbrook will have hosted Flagstaff on Tuesday in a rescheduled game, then will have a week off over spring break to prepare for their March 23 game at Payson. This year head coach Scott Baker has a young team with just two seniors, Aubrianna Begay and Lorna Spencer on the squad. They are joined by juniors Talyssa Larson, Ashley Speers and Tiffani Tyler. Sophomores on the team are Riley Reidhead, Guadalupe Luna, Macy Moore, Angelique Tyler and Kamele Shelendewa. Freshmen Sarah Slim, Elizabeth Paschal, Natalie Patterson, and Madison Moore round out a youthful group.
