By Greg Perkins The Lady Lobos bounced back from their first and only loss of the season at the hands of the top 3A team Page, with a 50-40 road win in Holbrook on Tuesday. Much like their first meeting, the Lobos opened up a double-digit lead through the first two periods, then held off a pesky Roadrunner team in the final minutes. Snowflake led by seven after the first and doubled that margin at the half. Holbrook’s trapping defense caused Snowflake problems in the third where the Birds outscored them by 11 to make it a game. The game remained close down the stretch until Snowflake pulled away inside the final minute. The battle of the region’s two talented post players, Snowflake’s Emily Davis and Holbrook’s Matehya Aberle went to Aberle in the stat column, much like their first meeting but in the more important win column. The Lobos most likely have secured their first region crown in several years, taking it away from the hands of Holbrook who has owned the east region title for the past four years. Snowflake’s Macee Lesueur led all scorers in the game with 19 points. Kamri Ballard added 11; Austin Stratton, 6; Trysten Hancock, 6; Emily Davis, 6; and Marinda Caldwell helped with 2. Playing in Blue Ridge on Friday night, the Lobos rolled to an easy 55-22 road win, moving their overall season record to 11-1. They should remain ranked second in the 3A rankings when they are released on Tuesday. This week Snowflake has a busy week. After hosting an overmatched Payson team on Tuesday, the Lady Lobos will travel to Winslow on Friday. On Saturday they return home to take on Thatcher. Both Winslow and Thatcher are ranked inside the top seven in the 3A standings along with the Lobos. Snowflake will cap their regular season at St. Johns on Tuesday.
