For the second time this season and the second time in seven years, Snowflake defeated the Lady Roadrunners. Hosting the Lobos on Tuesday night Holbrook again fell behind early. Snowflake held a 13-6 lead after the quarter and moved in front 29-15 at the half. Trailing 34-18 midway through the third quarter, Holbrook began to climb their way back into the contest behind their trapping defense. Holbrook outscored the Lobos 16-5 in the third making it a three-point game heading into the fourth. In the final eight minutes, Holbrook netted just two field goals but more importantly made just four of 10 free throws, which really hurt their chances of completing the comeback. Snowflake didn’t fare much better hitting only two of their eight attempts but they were able to pull away in the final minute, handing Holbrook a 50-40 loss. That win also wrestled away the east region title that the Roadrunners have held for the past four years. Barring three upset losses in the final week, the Lobos will win the east region. Mateyha Aberle outbattled Snowflake’s Emily Davis in the post finishing with a double-double, with 12 points and 10 boards. With the two post players squaring off it was one of Snowflake’s guards, Macee Lesueur who was the difference-maker. She scored a game-high 19 points. Kamri Ballard added 11. Along with Aberle’s dozen, Abigail Benally netted 11; Abigayle Nez, 4; Talynn Spencer, 4; Terry Nez, 3; Jineane Cummings, 2; Makani Tsiapai, 2; and Shan Footracer helped with 2. Holbrook made 13 of 27 free throws and hit just three treys. Snowflake hit only one three-point field goal and went three for 14 at the line.
