By Greg Perkins The Lady Lobos have put a ton of time in on the court preparing for this season, and through three games that work has more than paid off. Head Coach Joe Clare has his Ladies off to a 3-0 beginning and none of the games have been close. Snowflake opened the season last Tuesday with a 62-15 blow out win over visiting Chino Valley. Snowflake’s team speed was on full display with several transition buckets. That speed sparked them to a 38-2 halftime lead. They cruised through the second half to get the win. Austin Stratton and Trystan Hancock led the team in scoring with 11 each; Emily Davis was close behind with 10; Macee Lesueur added 8; Marynda Caldwell, 5; Kamri Ballard, 5; Kadee Penrod, 4; and Hannah Nichols, Azure Green, Kaelynn Hipps and Brooklyn Greer each netted two in the win. Hosting Round Valley on Thursday, the Lobos struggled a little bit with the Elks pressure early in the game but in the second half their own press caused severe damage to Round Valley’s hopes. Snowflake controlled the second half entirely before pulling away to a 61-35 win. Hancock led the way with 17 points. Stratton added 15; Davis, 10; Ballard, 6; Lesueur, 5; and Nichols, Penrod, Green, and Marynda Caldwell each had two points. Playing in Safford on Friday the Lobos again jumped out early building a large lead before the half. They eventually cruised to a 64-34 road win over the Bulldogs to improve to 3-0. This week Snowflake will get into region play when they travel to Show Low on Tuesday. Thursday’s home game with Holbrook will give them a good chance to improve to 5-0 and get an early leg up on the East region crown. Next Tuesday the Lobos are slated to host Blue Ridge.
