Football Snowflake

By Greg Perkins Snowflake’s original week six opponent was supposed to be one time rival Winslow, however, like so much of everything else this season, plans were changed due to COVID-19. Winslow had to cancel their game with the Lobos leaving Snowflake searching for another team to play on Friday night. That team ended up being Bourgade Catholic. The Golden Eagles had their last week’s opponent cancel on them leaving them available for a game with Snowflake. Bourgade was 3-2 on the season prior to their home field meeting with Snowflake. Snowflake came into the game on the heels of last week’s eight-point loss at Round Valley. They quickly got their groove back piling up 17 first quarter points. The Lobos tacked on two more second period touchdowns and led 31-10 at the half. Neither team scored in the third but the Lobos doubled up the Golden Eagles in the fourth cruising to their fifth win of the season against just the one loss with a 45-17 road win. Caden Cantrell would have been a solid fantasy pick completing 12 of 22 yards for 306 yards, with three touchdowns and one pick. Noah Baum led the receiving corps with 107 yards and a score on three catches. Caleb Lyman also eclipsed the century mark with 102 yards on three receptions and a score. Nick McVicker caught four balls for 72 total yards. Ryson Stuart had one 21-yard reception and Mayson McKinlay caught one four-yard pass. McKinlay led the rushing group with 95 yards on just four totes with a score. Camden Brimhall carried nine times for 72 yards with a touchdown. Lerma picked up 17 yards on four attempts. And Lyman had one five-yard rush. Snowflake’s defense forced six Bourgade Catholic turnovers including five interceptions. Stuart had two picks, Davyn McCray, Michael Brimhall, and Nick McVicker each had one pick. Josh Solomon recovered a Golden Eagle fumble. This week the Lobos are scheduled to close out the regular season on the road in Payson. The 3A football rankings will be released for the first time this season on Tuesday, at that point Snowflake will have an idea of where they stand in terms of power points. With their 5-1 record they should expect to be in the top five in the state with one game left.
