By Greg Perkins Holbrook’s boys soccer team has logged three matches thus far this season and they are still searching for their first win. Holbrook has just seven scheduled matches this season due to COVID, meaning their season is already nearing the halfway point. Holbrook fell to Snowflake, Show Low and Blue Ridge in their first three matches. Holbrook will travel to face a 1-7 St. Johns team on Wednesday then will host Show Low at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning. Holbrook’s final two matches will be against Round Valley next Monday in Springerville and Wednesday they will host St. Johns in their season finale. The Lady Roadrunner soccer team is also searching for their initial victory. Holbrook is 0-5, but they are showing improvement as the season progresses. Last week the team played tough in St. Johns before falling 0-7. On Saturday Holbrook played host to Payson and through the first 60 minutes of the match the teams were knotted at 1-1. Payson moved ahead on a direct kick then tacked on an insurance goal later to win the match 3-1. Holbrook played well in this match, but just couldn’t capitalize on a couple of close shot attempts. Holbrook has just three matches left on their docket. After hosting a 3-5 Blue Ridge squad on Tuesday evening they will play at Camp Verde on Thursday. Next Wednesday Holbrook will close out their regular season when they host Show Low.
