A Navajo County Deputy was involved in a non-fatal shooting on June 25, in Wagon Wheel, between Show Low and Pinetop/Lakeside. At approximately 7:32 p.m., NCSO deputies responded to a disturbance call involving aggressive dogs. The complainant reported that her grandchildren were riding bikes in the neighborhood when a neighbor unleashed his aggressive dogs near the children. The dogs then chased the children frightening them. The children rode their bikes home and notified their grandmother of the incident. The grandmother drove to the neighbor’s home to discuss the incident. When she arrived, the subject produced a firearm and pointed the weapon and threatened her. The grandmother retreated back to her home and called NCSO. The deputies responded to the residence of the dog owner, where the dogs were acting aggressive. A deputy attempted to communicate using the loudspeaker system on his vehicle, asking to speak with the owner of the dogs. Shane Michael Badding, 48, came outside armed with a firearm, yelling profanities and threatening the deputies. He refused to comply with commands from the deputies and continued to point his gun at them and make threats, which resulted in a deputy shooting Badding. He sustained a non-life threatening injury and deputies immediately rendered first aid and called for medical personnel. Badding was transported to the local hospital and was later flown to Scottsdale-Osborn Hospital. On June 30, Badding was arrested on a warrant and charged with three counts of disorderly conduct with a deadly weapon and four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was booked into Navajo County Jail where he is being held on a $5,000 bond. The Arizona Department of Public Safety, Major Crimes Unit was called to conduct the investigation and is still under investigation.
