By China Cassidy Holbrook Unified School District’s Class of 2020 will be recognized this year at 10 a.m. this Friday, May 22, in a drive-thru ceremony at the George Gardner Performing Arts Center parking lot at the Holbrook High School. The “Roadrunner Drive-in to Graduate and Drive-out to Success” ceremony is set up to allow the graduates and their immediate family to enter the lot as early as 8:30 a.m. They will be ushered to designated spaces where they will remain inside their vehicles until they are called to walk. There will be a stage inside the parking lot where families will accompany their graduates on foot to the stage then the graduation station, where they will receive their diplomas. Superintendent Dr. Robbie Koerperich said, “If education is going to mean something, we’ve got to celebrate it.” When deciding how HUSD would commemorate the class of 2020, Koerperich said that although only immediate family will get to attend the event, they had three goals in mind to ensure the seniors still get to enjoy their special day. Koerperich explained, “The public is not going to be able to attend our graduation. We usually have three, four thousand people at our graduation and we’re not going to be able to do that this year. Our three goals were, number one was to do things healthy, health and wellness. Number two, do things as a class and number three celebrate with their families.”
