Holbrook senior Madison Chappell was named the 3A Conference Player of the Year following Thursday’s All State Selection meeting held at the AIA offices in Phoenix. Holbrook’s standout player averaged 12 points and 10 rebounds a game, along with four assists and nearly six steals a game, helping lead her team to a 25-7 record. Chappell won 102 varsity games, played in two final fours and one state championship in her four years playing for the Lady Roadrunners. “I am extremely proud of Madison. She is very deserving of this award. She has been such a huge part of my program for the past four years. Yes, she has played with some amazing teammates, but she is such a talented young lady. Along with being a great player, she is also just an all-around good person with high character. She will be missed immensely. I hope her nothing but the best as she plays at the next level,” stated Coach Greg Perkins. Joining Chappell on the All State First team from Holbrook was junior forward Matehya Aberle. Aberle led the Lady Roadrunners in scoring this year with 16.7 points per game, despite missing 10 games with injury. Desirae Bain and Abigayle Nez were named to the All State Honorable Mention team for their efforts this season. “I am proud of all of these girls. They all had good seasons for us.”
