Snowflake’s resurgent season under Coach Joe Clare has put the Lobos into the 3A state tournament as the 13th overall seed. The Lady Lobos hosted No. 20 Gilbert Christian on Tuesday night. An expected win would put them on the road on Friday to face No. 4 Florence.

The Gophers defeated Snowflake by just four points earlier in the season, so a trip south wouldn’t necessarily mean the end of their season. If the Lobos can get the upset they would most likely have to face fifth seeded Ganado in Prescott on Monday. Snowflake defeated the Hornets way back in the first game of the season. Needless to say both teams are much improved from that early contest.

Snowflake garnered that 13th ranking by getting a split in their final two games of the regular season. Facing Show Low in Blue Ridge on Tuesday of last week the Lobos were victorious 54-38 pulling away from the Cougars in the fourth period.

Friday’s home game didn’t go as well. Winslow came to town and handed the Lobos their fourth region loss with a 52-61 setback. The Bulldogs, who finished second in the east region, earned the ninth overall seed in the tournament. Holbrook, which went unbeaten in region play, heads to the state tournament as the No. 10 overall seed.

Snowflake finished the regular season with an overall record of 20-7. They were 12-6 in power point contests, and 6-4 in east region play.
