Playing Payson for the second time in four days, this time in Payson the Lady Roadrunners had little problems with the Longhorns. Holbrook stepped off the bus with defense in mind and blanked the home team in the first period. Madison Chappell scored eight in the quarter, Talynn Spencer added five and Matehya Aberle netted four, helping Holbrook take a 26-0 lead into the second period. Payson found their stride a little in the second scoring eight and Holbrook slowed their pace as well but the Birds were comfortably on top 38-8 at the break. Spencer and Alyssa Yazzie both drained three-point shots in the third as the Birds cruised to a 48-15 lead after three. Shan Footracer played well in the fourth scoring seven points in the frame as Holbrook won the game 58-17. “We played fairly well, especially early. Our starting group did well but only played less than a half, which gave our bench players plenty of opportunities. Some of them stepped up and played well. Shan looked good in the fourth, and Terry (Nez) bounced back well from last week’s injury and worked hard. Talynn also found her shooting touch a little. We will need all these things and more on Friday when Winslow comes to town. I think both teams are playing well right now so it should be a battle,” said Coach Greg Perkins. Aberle led Holbrook in scoring with 12 points. Chappell added 10; Shan Footracer, 9; Talynn Spencer, 8; Desirae Bain, 4; Sam Billie, 4; Joycelynn Thomas, 3; Alyssa Yazzie, 3; Jineane Cummings, 2; Abigayle Nez, 2; and Mika Joe had one free-throw. Holbrook made six of 11 free-throws and connected on six three-point shots. Holbrook will host Winslow on Friday night. They then travel to face top five ranked Snowflake on Tuesday night. With the win, the Ladies improved their season mark to 14-5, and they are now 5-4 in power point contests.
