Snowflake’s girls’ program continues to shine under Coach Joe Clare. The Lady Lobos added three more wins to their total last week pushing their overall record to 16-3. Their three wins also moved their current winning streak to nine games, meaning they haven’t lost since the calendar turned to 2020.
Playing on their home court on Tuesday against visiting Blue Ridge, the Lobos cruised past the Yellowjackets by a final of 51-25. Trysten Hancock led the team in scoring with 11 points. Kamri Ballard and Macee Papa each added 8; Marynda Caldwell helped with 6; Jaidee Willis, 5; Emily Davis, 4; Heather Whipple, 4; Austin Stratton, 3; and Taryn Flake finished with 2.
Snowflake picked up another win on Thursday night in Payson easily handing the Longhorns a 58-36 setback. Austin Stratton led the way in scoring with 16 points. Trysten Hancock added 14; Macee Papa, 11; Emily Davis, 6; Heather Whipple, 6; Taryn Flake, 2; Zoey Uhlberg, 2; and Marynda Caldwell finished with 1.
The team’s final game of the week followed a long bus ride to Kayenta where the Lobos jumped on top with a big first half, then held on late to defeat the Mustangs 51-47.
Snowflake entered Saturday’s game ranked fifth in the 3A power points and will most likely be moved up one spot into the fourth position by the time they host Holbrook on Tuesday night. The Roadrunners are coming in off a four game winning streak, so this should be a good match-up between two of the top three teams in the East Region.
Following the Holbrook game, the Lobos will be in Show Low on Friday night taking on the Cougars. Next Tuesday Snowflake travels to Winslow for a match up with the always tough Lady Bulldogs.
With last week’s three wins the Lady Lobos headed into this week with an 8-2 regular season record.
