Snowflake’s boys’ team hadn’t been on the court for a game since Dec. 21, when they returned to action on Thursday with a trip to Whiteriver to face the Falcons.
That layoff didn’t really show up until the second period where Snowflake managed just three points, which left them trailing 30-15 at the half. That deficit grew much larger in the third period where Alchesay poured in 20 points while holding the Lobos to only six. Snowflake won the fourth period by one point but the damage was done with the Lobos taking a 59-31 road loss.
With one game under their belt and the rust off, the Lobos played better the following night when they defeated visiting St. Johns, 42-26. Snowflake scored just five in the first period but their defense held the Redskins to single digits in each of the four quarters including just three in the opening eight minutes.
With the split the Lobos improved their overall season mark to 10-8. More importantly they were 5-2 in power point games and ranked ninth at the beginning of the week.
The Lobos have a busy week ahead with three games. After hosting Blue Ridge on Tuesday, they will travel to Payson on Thursday. On Saturday the team will make the long trip to Kayenta to face the Mustangs. Next Tuesday, Snowflake hosts Holbrook.
