Head Coach Andy Wood got his basketball team off to a solid beginning on Dec. 3 when the Snowflake Lobos easily handled visiting Ganado, 53-20. The game was close after the first period and still fairly close at the half.

Snowflake’s defense took care of things in the second half limiting the Hornets to just three points over the final two quarters to secure the large season opening win.

Two days later Snowflake played in the 16- team Sedona Invitational. They opened tournament play on Thursday pulling out a 54-52 win over Mingus Union.

The first of Friday’s two games was a 46-54 loss to Northwest Christian in a mid-morning game. Early Friday evening Snowflake fought hard but lost to Window Rock by a single point at 52-51.

Saturday morning they met up with East Region foe Winslow and dropped the game to the Bulldogs, 83-62. Snowflake bounced back from that loss in a big way on Saturday afternoon by taking down the host team Scorpions, 64-19.

After hosting Safford in regular season play on Tuesday, the Lobos will return to tournament action this weekend when they play in the Nackard Holiday Tournament hosted by Flagstaff. The Lobos are slated to face Arizona Lutheran and Green Valley Nevada on Thursday, then will match up with Sedona, and Flagstaff on Friday. The tournament will continue on Saturday.

Next Tuesday the Lobos will return to regular season action with a road trip to Florence to face the Gophers.
