Holbrook’s final game of the season resulted in a 47-6 home field loss to Show Low on Friday night. Show Low took advantage of back-to-back Holbrook turnovers in scoring their first two touchdowns. Following a Roadrunner fumble, Show Low’s Cal Fawcett scored on a five-yard run. Rex McKrill’s point after kick made the early lead 7-0.

A second Holbrook miscue gave the ball back to the Cougars with a short field. They took advantage on a short scoring play a few minutes later. The Cougars actually fumbled the ball into the endzone then recovered it themselves for their second score of the night.

Holbrook’s only points of the night came on an eight-yard run by John O’Brien with 1:56 left in the period. That play was set up by a long pass from Marcus Oberriter to Myron Begay. Begay played well on the night with several good catches in the second half to go along with the 50-yard completing from Oberriter.

With the loss the Holbrook Roadrunners finished the season 0-10. While that record is certainly not what first year coach Chris Starkey was hoping for, he has to like the way his team played for much of the season.

Holbrook’s football program needed to be rebuilt and it has to happen from the ground up. Coach Starkey and his staff laid the ground work for that rebuild this season. Yes, some wins on the scoreboard would have been nice, but the Birds had wins in many areas other than the scoreboard. Next year it remains to be seen what conference or region the team will play in. Hopefully the football team (which will be separate from the rest of the sports), will be placed where they can have some more success.
