The first three minutes of Friday’s home field game with Mogollon were competitive with Joseph City using a touchdown pass and two-point conversion to answer the Mustangs eight points which came in the first two minutes of the game tying the score at 8-8. From that point on however, things went entirely in favor of Mogollon. The Mustangs added four more first quarter scores and tacked on an additional two more second period scores to lead 50-8 at the half.

The large loss was bad enough news for the Wildcats, but once the 1A State playoff brackets were released on Saturday the news got worse. Joseph City finished the regular season with a balanced record of 4-4. They did make the final 12 team 1A state playoff field, but as the No. 10 overall seed they will match up with their rival and nemesis seventh seeded Mogollon on Friday night. This time the game will be played in Mogollon. Unless the Cats can figure out how to turn the tables on a 62-point loss, they may be playing their final game of the season in the first round.
