Homecoming night at Roadrunner Stadium didn’t go as hoped for the large contingency of Holbrook fans. Window Rock was the guest and the Scouts came in with an unimpressive 2-2 regular season mark. However, by the time the game was over they had left with a very impressive 42-0 win over the winless Roadrunners.

Playing in front of the homecoming crowd, along with the nearly full Window Rock stands, the Scouts marched right down the field on their opening drive, capping off an 88-yard drive with the first of four Nataa Chief touchdown runs. Following a Holbrook interception, Chief had his second short scoring run with 3:57 left in the first period pushing the lead to 14-0. Chief finished the night with nearly 200 individual rushing yards and the four scores.

Holbrook was able to move the ball, and some big plays by Marcus Oberriter, John O’Brien, Tyson Begay and Myron Begay helped the Birds move inside Window Rock’s 15-yard line on five separate occasions. However, on each trip deep into the scoring zone the Roadrunners were kept out of the endzone and off the scoreboard.

With the loss Holbrook fell to 0-5 on the season. They have now completed their non-East Region schedule and things figure to get much more difficult beginning with this week’s trip to Payson on Friday night. The Longhorns are 4-1 and are coming off back to back shut-out wins over Catalina 48-0 and Chinle 59-0. Holbrook will host Winslow in two weeks.
