The midpoint of the high school football season has arrived with most teams playing either their fifth or sixth game. Homecoming night will be Friday for Holbrook and the Roadrunners have one non-region game left before entering East Region play.

Window Rock is the opponent and the Scouts come in with a 2-2 season mark. Their wins over Wingate and Rock Point don’t scare many people. Their two losses are to Globe and Paradise Honors, two teams with a combined record of 3-6. Holbrook enters the game at 0-4 but this game will be their best opportunity to break into the win column. Last season a struggling Holbrook team lost to the Scouts in Window Rock by a final of 20-12. This year’s Holbrook team is better than last season’s in several areas. Hopefully they will be able to notch that first win in Coach Starkey’s Holbrook career. Turnovers will be the key. If Holbrook can take care of the ball, they can take care of the Scouts and earn a homecoming win.

Winslow is 4-1 entering their game at Tuba City. The Warriors will be Winslow’s fourth North Region opponent and three of their four wins have come against their northern neighbors. Tonight will be a fourth win as the Bulldogs will cruise to a 5-1 mark. Tuba City is only 1-3 and Winslow is by far the superior team. Despite playing on the road look for Winslow to at least match last year’s 47-0 win over the Warriors.

Snowflake is off this week and will have had two weeks to prepare for their East Region opener when they host Blue Ridge next Friday. The Lobos are currently 4-1 and may once again be the best team in the East Region. Blue Ridge and Show Low could have something to say about that by the time the end of the season rolls around.
