At the Sept. 5 Taylor Town Council meeting, the council decided to move forward with plans to improve the airport. The project was discussed at a previous meeting but was tabled until it was decided that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) could fully fund the project. “At our last meeting, you [the council] approved the contract with Show Low Construction, who was the low bidder, on this project. The total amount of that contract escapes me, it’s somewhere in the $450,000 area. At that point, we weren’t quite sure if the FAA was going to be able to fund the entire thing. You approved that contract contingent upon getting fully funded by the FAA and, I’m happy to say, the FAA is able to fully fund that project,” said Town Manager Gus Lundberg.

The project will extend the parking lot of the airport, finish the fencing around the perimeter, improve the entrance with a security gate, and allow for the removal of several large stumps. The total project will cost a little over $600,000. Lundberg was given approval by the council to execute the plan and begin work on improving the airport.

The council also discussed the success of the Sweet Corn Festival. Overall, the festival went well and the events were well-received. The new addition of the lawnmower races turned out to be an interesting replacement to the rodeo this year and the council was pleased with the way the Cornhole Tournament turned out. The council discussed adding more ventilation to the pavilion at the Rodeo Grounds where the food vendors set up, more tables for people to sit down and eat, and fans to combat the heat at the Festival.
