The Wildcats faced Bagdad in the Dome, for the second consecutive season. Last year these two clubs met with the Sultans prevailing in a close game 26-20. Both teams are playing their first game of the year so this game, like last season, could be very close and may also be a solid indicator to the rest of the 1A conference as far as where the early power is.

Winslow lost at Blue Ridge by 20 points a couple of weeks ago on an emotional night in Lakeside as the school honored the late Paul Moro. On Aug. 30 the Bulldogs had their own home opener when they welcomed in Monument Valley. The Mustangs were playing their first game of the season. Last season the Bulldogs won this match up handily. With Winslow already having one game in the books, look for this game to go much like it did a year ago.

Snowflake survived two weeks ago, escaping Safford with an 8-7 win. The Safford Bulldogs missed a potential game winning field goal in the waning seconds or the outcome may have been flipped. The Lobos had a few critical turnovers, which they will need to clean up for their game on the road against Benjamin Franklin. Last season the Chargers won this match up played in Snowflake, handing the Lobos their only regular season loss by a final of 14-8. Two weeks ago Benjamin Franklin throttled Ganado 48-6. Playing in Phoenix on Friday night in the heat against a very tough opponent may have been too much for the Lobos to overcome. They will certainly have to play better than their week one performance if they expect to move to 2-0.

Holbrook was at home again last week when they welcomed in Chinle. The Wildcats are playing their first game of the season, while the Birds and their new coaching regime now have a game under their belt. Last season’s match up with the Wildcats was the only bright spot for the Holbrook football season as the Roadrunners prevailed 14-12. Holbrook had a couple of costly turnovers in their first game, which they will need to avoid in order to garner their first victory of the season. A win would be a solid confidence booster for Holbrook as they head into week three of the season.
