The Lady Roadrunners wrapped up their third consecutive East Region title on Friday night with a resounding 43-17 win over visiting Show Low. Holbrook and Winslow tied after splitting their two match ups this season, but Holbrook holds the first tiebreaker, which is conference record.

Show Low started the contest wanting to hold the ball but Holbrook grabbed an early lead and put that strategy to bed. The Roadrunners led 10-2 after a slow moving first period and pushed that margin to 17-4 at the half. In the third period, they opened the floodgates pouring in 23 points while holding the Cougars to just 6. That third period run gave the Birds a 40-10 lead after three periods.

“We played solid defense throughout the game and in the third we found a spark on offense late in the period to push it to a running clock situation. The girls put together a remarkable regular season, better than most predicted, for being such a young overall team. Now we can focus on the state tournament,” stated Roadrunner Coach Greg Perkins.

With the win, Holbrook capped their regular season with an impressive overall mark of 23-4. They were 14-3 in power point contests leaving them ranked fourth in the final power point standings. As the No. 4 seed they will receive a first round bye. Holbrook will await the winner between No. 12 Pusch Ridge and No. 21 Monument Valley. That match up was played in Tucson on Feb. 12. Holbrook will face the winner at a neutral location yet to be determined by the AIA at 6:30 p.m. this Friday night.
