Holbrook had played some ugly games prior to their trip to Window Rock but they really hadn’t played a poor game until Friday when they fell to the Scouts 56-39. The Lady Roadrunners struggled mightily from the field shooting just 29 percent for the game, which included only six percent from the three-point line where they made only one of 18 attempts.

“We don’t need to make a bunch of threes but we have been making four or five per game, which opens things up on the inside. Tonight nothing seemed to go in for anyone except Madison who played great. She led us in scoring with 15 points, but also with energy and steals with 10. We just need everyone on the floor to play with the same passion she has and we will be fine. Especially when our shots aren’t going in we have to really step up on the defensive side,” stated Coach Greg Perkins.

Despite not shooting well, Holbrook still led by one after the first period and trailed by just five at the break thanks in part to Madison Chappell’s nine first half points. Holbrook was still within reach at the three-minute mark of the game when they trailed by just three but from that point on Window Rock went on a scoring run to close the game out.

“We certainly had our chances to stay in the game but we just didn’t play like we have been. Now we have a good competitive tournament after the break to sort some things out and prepare for East Region play. If you would have told me we would be 4-2 in power points and ranked in the top 10 prior to the Christmas break we would take it and that is where we are, so overall I am pleased with the girls up to this point. We just can’t have any more games like the Window Rock one,” said Perkins
