By Greg Perkins Snowflake’s 24-0 win at Winslow on Friday night put a wrap on their regular season with the Lobos holding an 8-1 regular season record. That win also leaves the Lobos seeded third in the 3A state playoffs, which begin on Friday night. The loss allowed the Bulldogs to remain inside the top 16, meaning they will be the No. 16 seed and will have to travel to Northwest Christian on Friday night to taking on the number one overall seeded Crusaders. Winslow played the Lobos tough on Friday night going toe to toe in a scoreless game until the four-minute mark of the second period when Brigden Turley scored on a six yard run. Samuel Crockett’s point after gave Snowflake the 7-0 lead. Late in the half Snowflake doubled that margin with a one-yard plunge by Fox. Crockett booted a 26-yard field goal midway through the third period making the lead 17-0. Snowflake’s final points came at the five-minute mark of the final quarter on a 29-yard run by Turley. Ethan Ramage struggled a bit compared to his previous games. The Lobo quarterback completed just seven of 18 passes for 129 yards with two interceptions. Jake Christensen was his favorite target with three catches for 48 yards. Turley had one for 31 yards; Sam Ruehle, one for 25; Traegon Standerfer, 1 for 20; and Luke Patterson had one five yard reception. Turley led the rushing attack with 129 yards and two scores on only 13 attempts. David Brimhall had 12 for 34 yards. Ethan Walker and Terren Green each carried twice, gaining 11 yards apiece. Fox had one yard on one carry, but it put him in the end zone. Snowflake’s defense was stellar holding the Bulldogs to only 54 yards passing and 49 yards on the ground. Brimhall led the way with 16 tackles. Caleb Uchytil and Jesse Sparks each had 11, and Traegon Standerfer finished with 10 takedowns. Snowflake will now enter the 3A state football playoffs as the No. 3 overall seed. As the third seed they will host No. 14 Fountain Hills on Friday night. The Falcons finished the season with a 5-5 record and has won three of their past four. If Snowflake can get passed Fountain Hills they will face either No. 6 Sabino or No. 11 Blue Ridge. Winslow gets to face the top overall seed and with a huge upset win they would get either No. 8 Wickenburg, or No. 9 Benjamin Franklin.
