The boys soccer team in Snowflake needs to win their final game of the regular season today (Oct. 17), then will have to await their fate, to see if they can climb into the top eight in the rankings which would advance them into the eight team bracket of the 2A State Soccer Playoff.

The Lobos will enter Wednesday’s home field season finale against Basis from Flagstaff, ranked ninth in the power rankings. With an expected win against the winless Yeti, Snowflake will have to wait and see if they can gain enough power points to displace either Wilcox or Page who are both ranked just ahead of them in the seventh and eighth positions. If the Lobos fail to climb into the final eight, their season will come to a close on Wednesday.

Snowflake earned a split in their two matches played last week. Hosting Page on Tuesday, the Lobos shut out the Sand Devils 5-0. The following day they played tough on the road at St. Johns but came up one goal short in a 2-3 loss. Snowflake’s record heading into their final regular season match is 6-4-1.

The Lady Lobo’s soccer team it appears will finish outside the top four in the final rankings. They have two matches remaining and will most likely need to win both plus get some outside help in order to climb up from their current sixth position. In 2A girls soccer only four teams make the state tournament. Snowflake will host Show Low on Tuesday then will host Blue Ridge on Thursday in their season finale.

Both matches could be close and both will need to go in favor of the Lobos if they expect to have any chance to advance their season.

On Thursday of last week the Lobos helped their cause by defeating the fourth ranked Redskins in St. Johns 1-0. Snowflake heads into the final week of the regular season with an overall record of 5-5.
