Holbrook’s volleyball team was hoping to at least earn a split in Saturday’s double-header match in Chinle, which would have helped keep the team ranked close to the top 24 in the 3A rankings, a position they will need to attain before season’s end if they want to make the state play in games.

Unfortunately the Wildcats proved to be too much. Chinle won both matches of the double-header 3-1. Holbrook started well in the first match winning the initial game 28-26. Chinle came roaring back tying the match in game two 25-16, then went on to win game three 25-19 and game four 25-17.

The second match started a little differently with Chinle taking the first two games 26-24 and 15-25. Holbrook came back winning game three 25-21, but the Wildcats closed out the match winning game four 25-16.

Holbrook was ranked 26th at the close of the week with a 2-12 regular season mark. They will host fifth ranked Payson on Thursday then will play at 23rd ranked Winslow on Tuesday.

In their final two weeks of the season Holbrook will have three matches left, all against good competition. They still have top ranked Snowflake, ninth ranked Blue Ridge, and 13th ranked Show Low on their docket. If the Lady Birds want to reach the post season they may need to at least double their win total with two more wins before the close of the season.
