The Wildcats pushed their football season mark to 3-2 with a quality road win over El Capitan on Saturday afternoon. The long bus trip didn’t have an impact on Joseph City as they came off the bus on fire putting up 24 first quarter points on offense and pitching a shut out on defense through the first 12 minutes. The Cats tacked on 18 more in the second period to hold a commanding 42-6 halftime lead.
That margin grew to 50-6 with one score in the third, before the Eagles picked up some garbage points in the fourth period making the score a little more respectable with the 50-22 loss to Joseph City.
Latrell Kinlicheenie had some spectacular passing statistics. He only completed five of eight passes for 152 total yards but four of those five completions went for touchdowns. Karter Lampsa completed his only pass for five yards. Joseph City quarterbacks seemingly got every receiver involved with the six receptions going to six different receivers. KJ Kinlicheenie had one 70-yard reception. Jay Edwards’ catch was good for 37 yards. BJ Martineau had a 29-yard catch. Sammie Hendricks reception was good for 16 yards. John Weightman made one five yard grab.
On the ground Joseph City piled up the yardage, led by Cameron Baldwin. The senior carried just 11 times but picked up 164 yards. Lampsa rushed twice, gaining 36 yards. Latrell Kinlicheenie had 35 yards on four attempts. Damon Sandoval rushed four times gaining 15 yards, and Terrell Kinlicheenie carried three times for 13 total yards.
Joseph City has just three weeks left in the regular season and needs to climb into the top 12 in the overall 1A power rankings, which will be released on Tuesday. Following Friday’s game in Phoenix against NFL Yet College Prep, the Wildcats will finish out the regular season at home against Fredonia on Oct. 5, and will travel to rival Mogollon on Oct. 12.
