The Lady Roadrunners dropped a hard fought volleyball match at home on Tuesday evening losing to the Show Low Cougars in five games after holding a 2-1 lead in the first three.

Holbrook controlled the first game of the match winning it easily 25 to 14. The Cougars flipped the table in the second game prevailing by an identical score of 25-14 balancing the match at one game apiece. The tide once again turned in Holbrook’s favor in game three with the Lady Birds winning comfortably 25-13.

Game four appeared to be the turning point. Both teams played hard with several scrambling saves, but eventually the Roadrunners found themselves trailing 20-24.

Madison Chappell then served four consecutive points tying the game at 24-24. Holbrook took the lead at one point and had a chance to close out the game and the match. Show Low battled tough forcing a fifth game with a 28-26 win in game four. The decisive game five was close early with each team taking one point leads. With the score knotted at 7-7 Show Low began to pull away. They edged in front 11-9, then closed out the match with four consecutive points to win the game 15-9.

The two teams were fairly evenly matched and the game played out that way. Unfortunately for the Lady Roadrunners they came up just short while looking for their second regular season win of the season. With the win Show Low improved their season mark to 6-1 while Holbrook dropped to 1-5. This match also marked Holbrook’s initial East region contest of the season. With the exception of a double header against Chinle, the remainder of Holbrook’s regular season schedule consists of only East Region opponents.

The Roadrunners will play their final tournament of the season this weekend with action at the Kayenta Township Mustang Tournament held in Monument Valley. Holbrook was slated to face Tuba City, Shiprock, Chinle and Hopi in pool play on Friday. Bracket play was held Saturday. Holbrook returned to the regular season on Tuesday with a trip to Payson. On Thursday they will host Winslow.
