Obit Hicks Carroll

Our dear father Carroll Martin Hicks, 82, of Holbrook passed away on Sunday, Sept. 16, after a long and brave fight. A Celebration of Life with Rosary and Divine Mercy at 10:30 a.m. and memorial at 11 a.m. will be held on Sunday, Oct. 7, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church Family Center, located at 225 E. Arizona St. in Holbrook. Carroll was born at 11:55 a.m. on Jan. 17, 1936, in Iowa Park, Texas, the first child of William Martin and Sylvia Gladys (Patterson) Hicks. His only sibling, Margaret Jeanette “Jan” was born two years later. She passed away in 2016. He married Frances Saiz, the daughter of Francisco (Chavez) Saiz and Margaret (Sandoval) Saiz, in Holbrook on Feb, 19, 1962. Together they raised four beautiful daughters, Stephanie Bernadette, Natalie, Monica and Angela. His dear wife Frances passed away in November of 1989. Carroll served in the US Armed Forces in Germany from 1958-1960. He worked various jobs throughout Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. His nickname was “The Bronc”, because he was so physically strong. He finally settled in Holbrook and retired from Arizona Public Service in 1990. Carroll loved life and especially his family. He loved working on his family history and was dedicated to it. He was a dear husband, father, friend, neighbor and all around good man. He had a remarkable gift for remembering dates, places and events. His outlook on life and attitude was indeed a blessing to all who knew him. He always had a joke or story to tell, to make you laugh. We will miss him dearly. He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Stephanie Bernadette and Tony Mussi, Natalie, Monica and Angela Hicks; and many relatives, friends and loved ones.
