Holbrook was hoping to win their first two games of the season for the first time in several years when they played host to Ganado on Friday night. The Hornets came into the game with a 2-1 record with lopsided victories in their past two weeks over Many Farms and Pinon.

Holbrook played tough in the first half battling the Hornets to a 0-0 half time tie. Ganado broke through on the scored board in the third period on a six-yard run by Herman Key on fourth down making the score 6-0.

The Roadrunners who were plagued by turnovers in their two-point win over Chinle in week one, had four more turnovers in this contest with one of their fumbles getting returned 62 yards for a score in the fourth period pushing the lead to 12-0. Later in the fourth quarter, Hornet running back Tony Shirley capped a huge night with a 25-yard scoring run to make the final score of the game 18-0 in favor of the Hornets.

Shirley finished the night with 215 yards rushing on 23 carries with the one touchdown. Hornet Quarterback Herman Kee completed nine of 26 passes for 69 yards with one interception.

Ganado will now have a week off to prepare for Blue Ridge who they will host on Sept. 21.

With the loss the Roadrunners evened their season mark at 1-1. This week they will face Sahuarita in a game that will be played in Queen Creek on Saturday afternoon.
