HOLBROOK — In a special meeting held on Monday, Aug. 20, the Holbrook City Council selected City Clerk Cher Reyes as the new interim city manager until a permanent manager is chosen for the position. Reyes has been employed with the city since 1987, transferring from finance to acting city clerk in 2000, then moved permanently into that position in 2001. Her other duties have included zoning administrator, building official and inspector, recreation director, pool manager, a temporary position in human resources and as co-interim city manager in 2004. She will continue in her position as city clerk while taking on the extra duties, with Lisa Maestas, who has already been in training, assisting her with her city clerk duties. Initially, Councilman Richard Peterson had made a motion to allow Finance Director Randy Sullivan to continue as interim city manager by simply renewing his contract, which had expired in July, for another 90 days. That motion was seconded by Councilwoman Francie Payne and supported by Councilman Earl Kester but was voted down by the rest of the council including Mayor Bobby Tyler, and councilmen Tim Dixon, Adam Marsh and CJ Wischmann. Councilman Dixon then motioned for Reyes to take over the position, which was seconded by Councilman Wischmann and approved unanimously by council. The details of Reyes’ contract have yet to be revealed but will likely be similar to that of Sullivan while in that position who received an annual increase of $20,412 while serving. Reyes also requested additional vacation time from four to six weeks and a stipulation that once the permanent manager is selected she will return to her full time position as city clerk.
