The Snowflake Lobos saw their early season schedule balance out at 1-1 after Friday night’s home field loss to visiting Benjamin Franklin by a final score of 14-8. The defensively dominated game went scoreless through the first quarter until the Chargers scored the first half’s only touchdown with five minutes remaining in the second on a short rushing score to take a 7-0 lead with the point after kick.
Snowflake had an opportunity to get points just before the half ended but a turnover left them with a goose egg on the board at the half.
Late in the third quarter the Lobos again pushed the ball into the red zone of the Chargers, but this time they failed on a fourth down attempt giving the ball back to Benjamin Franklin inside their own 10-yard line.
Three minutes into the fourth the visitors scored an insurance touchdown on a 43-yard run. The point after pushed the lead to 14-0.
Following another Lobo drive, which ended in a turnover, the Lobos finally got on the board with a short 11-yard scoring strike from quarterback Ethan Ramage to Luke Patterson. Cody Fox ran in for the conversion leaving the Lobos trailing 14-8 with less than a minute left. Snowflake’s onside kick attempt failed leaving them with the six-point loss.
Ramage compiled some solid stats despite the final result. He completed 16 of 24 attempts for 208 yards with one scored and two interceptions. Jake Christensen had two receptions for 63 total yards. Sam Ruehle caught 2 for 52; Patterson, 3 for 30 with a touchdown; Brigden Turley, 3 for 23; Traegon Standerfer, 2 for 21; and David Brimhall was the favorite target with four catches for 19 yards.
On the ground Snowflake had just 71 total rushing yards. Brimhall carried nine times for 63 total yards. Turley had 12 attempts for 21 yards, Patterson rushed once for six and Cody Fox had one three-yard run. Ramage carried three times, for a negative 22 yards.
This week the Lobos, now 1-1, will hit the road for the first time this season with a long trip to Florence. The Gophers are 0-1 after falling to Page last week 46-12.
