On June 11, Holbrook City Clerk Cher Reyes received two petitions for the recall of Mayor Bobby Tyler and Councilman C.J. Wischmann.

According to Reyes, 162 signatures had been collected for Tyler and 153 for Wischmann, both exceeding the number needed to initiate the recall, which was started on May 11 by Holbrook resident and city employee, Kathleen Smith.

In order for the petition to be filed with the city, there had to be no less than 109 valid signatures collected for Tyler and 126 for Wischmann.

Once Reyes has completed her review, the signatures will be forwarded to the Navajo County Recorder’s Office for final verification.

If the Recorder’s Office confirms that there are sufficient signatures, then Reyes must officially file the petition and notify Tyler and Wischmann of the recall.

Once notified, both men will have either five days to resign or 10 days to write a 200-word rebuttal that will be included with the petition claims as part of a special election for the public.

If there is no resignation within five days, then the council must call an election within 15 days that will be held on the next consolidated election date that is 90 or more days after the call.

In the event of a successful recall election, other candidates for those positions will be required for replacement consideration.
