Softball 2 Snowflake

Snowflake will have hosted Blue Ridge in their final regular season game on Monday of this week. The outcome of that contest really wouldn’t have much of an impact on the Lobos as far as the state tournament play-in games go. The Lobos entered this week ranked 12th in power points and will be scheduled to host a play-in game against the 20th ranked team. Ironically the team ranked 20th on Sunday was the same team the Lobos will face in the regular season finale on Monday, Blue Ridge. If those rankings hold, those two teams will see each other on Monday, as well as Wednesday, however, there could be movement up and down the rankings pending the outcome of Monday’s game.

Snowflake won two of three games played last week. Hosting Holbrook on Tuesday, they fought back from a 5-0 deficit to win the game 9-7. Holbrook led by those five runs after two innings. Snowflake cut into the margin with three in the bottom of the third. Holbrook moved back out in front 7-3 with two fourth inning runs. It only took one inning for the Lobos to catch and pass the Roadrunners. Snowflake scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth then added one additional run in the sixth to get the win.

Rylee Hensley went 2 for 4, with a triple; Kaylee Thomas, 2 for 4; Hallie McCray, 2 for 4, with a home run and a triple; Jordyn Butler, 2 for 4; Lanee Penrod, 1 for 4; and Heather Whipple was 1 for 4.

Rylee Hensley pitched five innings giving up five runs on 10 hits with one strikeout. Sydney Bauer pitched one scoreless inning with three strikeouts.

Hosting Round Valley on Wednesday, the Lobos started quickly with four first inning runs. They added two more by the end of the fifth to lead 6-0. Round Valley avoided the shut out with two runs in the top of the sixth. Snowflake went on to win the game 9-2.

Thomas was 3 for 4; Rylee Hensley, 2 for 3, with a triple; Jashlee Schneider was 2 for 4; Whipple, 1 for 3; and Jordyn Powers went 1 for 2.

Bauer got the job done in the circle with seven innings pitched. She allowed just two runs on three hits with eight strikeouts and walked three.

Playing in Show Low on Friday the Lobos came out on the wrong end of a 12-10 slugfest. The game started well enough with Snowflake leading 7-0 after the top of the second. Show Low scored once in the bottom of the second then made it a one run score with five runs in the bottom of the third. Snowflake increased their margin to two with a single run in the fourth. The Cougars caught and passed them with two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, and three in the sixth. Snowflake tried to rally in the top of the seventh but fell short after scoring two runs.

Rylee Hensley went 3 for 4, with a home run and a double; Schneider was 4 for 4, with two home runs and a double; Thomas went 2 for 4; Bauer, 2 for 4; Powers, 1 for 4, with a double; McCray was 1 for 3, with a double; and Butler went 1 for 4.

“It was a good week with good momentum moving forward this season, into the playoffs, into next year for our program,” said Head Coach Aaron Huish.

Snowflake will be hosting a state tournament play-in game on Wednesday. Their opponent won’t be known until Tuesday morning. If they win that game they will begin play in the 3A state tournament on Saturday. If they fall in the play-in game on Wednesday, their season will come to a close.
