Baseball 4 Snowflake

Snowflake will more than likely be on the road for the 3A state play-in game on Friday. The Lobos entered their final regular season game on Monday ranked 19th, and even with a win would not be able to garner enough points to climb into the top 16 in order to host that play-in game.

The Lobos went 2-1 during the week with wins over Holbrook on Tuesday, and Round Valley on Wednesday. Their lone setback came at Show Low on Friday.

Tuesday’s home game with the Roadrunners went scoreless until the Lobos did most of their damage with five runs in the third inning. Holbrook cut that margin to 5-4 in the top of the sixth, but Snowflake added an insurance run they would later need in the bottom of the sixth. Snowflake’s two-run margin was trimmed to one by the Birds in the top of the seventh, but that was as close as Holbrook came with Snowflake prevailing 6-5 in the region contest.

Chase Williams went 2 for 3, with a triple and a double; Treagon Standerfer, 2 for 4; Cody Fox, 1 for 3; Fernando Quintana, 1 for 2; Ricky Munger, 1 for 3; Josh Beecroft, 1 for 2; and Joey Beecroft, 1 for 3.

Quintana earned the win on the hill working all seven innings. He allowed five runs with five strikeouts and walked two.

Hosting the Elks the following day, the Lobos took control of the game early with four first inning runs. They added seven more in the seventh enroute to a 12-1 win.

Quintana went 3 for 4; Josh Beecroft, 2 for 2; Tyler Hall, 1 for 2; Brydon Hatch, 1 for 3, with a double; Munger, 1 for 2, with a double; Standerfer, 1 for 2, with a double; Tyson Ramirez, 1 for 1; and Joey Beecroft, 1 for 2.

Munger pitched five innings allowing just the one run with eight strikeouts and walked one.

Playing at Show Low on Friday, Snowflake came out on the wrong end of a 15-5 final outcome. Quintana went 2 for 2, with two doubles; Joey Beecroft, 2 for 3; Hall, 1 for 3; Standerfer, 1 for 3, with a double; Josh Beecroft, 1 for 2, with a double; and Braedon Davis was 1 for 1.

Standerfer worked 3.2 innings giving up 10 runs. Joey Beecroft pitched 1.1 innings allowing five runs with one strikeout.

After hosting Blue Ridge on Monday in the regular season finale the Lobos will have to wait and see whom they will host in the play-in game on Friday. A win in that game would place them into the state tournament, while a loss on Friday will bring their season to a close.
