Baseball 2 Holbrook 2

Holbrook dropped just their second regular season game last week getting shut out by Blue Ridge on April 10, 4-0. Yellowjacket pitchers Dylan Hanson and Corey Endfield combined to no hit the Roadrunners while striking out five and walking seven.

Blue Ridge did most of their offensive damage in the top of the fifth, scoring three of their four runs. They added one for good measure in the top of the seventh.

Holbrook pitcher Jalen Nez also pitched a good game giving up just the four runs on four hits with nine strikeouts and walked only two; normally a good enough performance to get his team the win.

Playing at Show Low last Friday, the Roadrunners had a nice bounce back win with a 4-1 performance.

Despite the win, Holbrook still struggled at the plate and didn’t score any of their runs until the top of the seventh where they scored all four. Show Low scored their only run in the bottom of the fourth.

Justin Perkins gave a nice effort on the hill giving up just the one run on seven hits with eight strikeouts and walked only one Cougar batter.

At the plate, Holbrook was led by Cole McDaniel who went 2 for 3, as did Gabe Gabaldon. Brett Buckley was 1 for 2, with a double; Michael Queiruga, 1 for 3, also with a double; and Perkins helped his own cause going 1 for 3 with a double. Brady Buckley also went 1 for 3.

Holbrook was ranked seventh on Saturday with a 12-2 regular season record, and if they can maintain their position in the top eight they would avoid the play-in game, which takes place on April 27 for teams ranked ninth through 24th.

After playing at Snowflake on Tuesday, Holbrook will host Winslow on Friday, and welcome in Round Valley on Saturday. Next Monday they close out the regular season with a home game against Payson.
