Baseball 4 Winslow

Using a very strong performance from pitcher Ricardo Villanueva, Winslow’s baseball team picked up a 5-0 shut out over visiting Blue Ridge on March 26.

The Bulldog hurler and his defense limited the Jackets to just three hits in seven innings. He faced 29 Yellowjacket batters allowing no runs on just the three hits, with five strikeouts and he walked only one.

Winslow finished with just eight total hits but put together enough of them to score the five runs. Daniel Vizcaya went 2 for 4; as did AJ Huerta; Russell Foy was 2 for 3; Brennan Sawyer, 1 for 3; and Villanueva, 1 for 2.

Winslow scored in just two innings. They pushed across three in the third, and added two more in the sixth.

With the east region win, the Bulldogs improved their regular season mark to 7-2 which had them ranked 13th in the first power rankings which were released Tuesday morning. The remainder of the east region is ranked as follows; Show Low, ninth; Holbrook, 11th; Payson, 18; Snowflake, 19th; and Blue Ridge, 24th; prior to all the action on Tuesday.

Winslow played Payson last Friday, then hosted Holbrook on Tuesday. Next weekend the Bulldogs will be in action at the Wolves Classic Tournament playing in Goodyear.
